DOPE – SUN YANG
Sun Yang is a Chinese Olympic and world record holding competitive swimmer.
Sun Yang became the first Chinese athlete to win an Olympic swimming Gold Medal in 2012 and the first male swimmer in history to earn Olympic and World Championship Gold Medals at every freestyle distance between 200m and 1500m.
He is a three-time Olympic Gold Medalist and eleven-time World Champion and was the most decorated Chinese swimmer in history.
Sun was accused of having vials of his blood smashed with a hammer in a tense standoff with a doping agent in the aftermath of samples being collected during a 2018 visit to his home. He and his team claimed the doping agent was not properly accredited and that they did not want them to leave with the samples, while Sun also refused to provide a urine sample but has constantly maintained his innocence.
In February of 2020 Sun was banned for eight years by CAS after it accepted an appeal from the World Anti-Doping Agency against a decision by swimming’s governing body FINA to clear him of wrongdoing for his conduct during the 2018 drug tests.
